Lauren Katz McKay, DDS

Meet Dr. McKay

Dr. Lauren Katz McKay will be joining our prosthodontic team as an associate this month.  Dr. McKay shares the same passion as I do, using her talents, knowledge, and skills to provide the very best in prosthodontic care for her patients, and for our dental community at large.  We are very excited about her joining our Prosthodontics team and look forward to a bright future together.

A native of North Carolina, Dr. McKay is a true Tar Heel, as she earned her undergraduate degree, dental degree, certificate in Prosthodontics, and PhD, all from UNC-Chapel Hill. She has earned several awards including: Dentsply Sirona Research Award for Dual Degree Candidates, Osteology Foundation New Investigator Award in Oral Tissue Regeneration, Pierre Fauchard Academy Certificate of Merit, and American College of Prosthodontists Award.  It was almost ten years ago at UNC during her Graduate Prosthodontics residency where Dr. McKay and I first met. I have volunteered for over 20 years as an adjunct faculty instructor for the UNC Chapel Hill Department of Graduate Prosthodontics.  Dr. McKay’s passion for Prosthodontics stems from the combination of science, innovation, and artistry that are all integral parts of the field. Dr. McKay has also completed a dental implant fellowship at UNC in 2019 (sponsored by Dentsply Sirona Implants) and was the Eastern Region Resident Representative and a member of the National Prosthodontics Awareness Week Committee for the American College of Prosthodontists.

Over the last two and a half years, Dr. McKay has worked in private practice in Durham, where she treated numerous patients who have needed advanced dental implant-supported restorations.  Dr. McKay is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Health Sciences at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.  Her research focuses on better understanding how oral and craniofacial structures regenerate after injury and disease and how to translate this knowledge into regenerative therapies for her patients.  This research is funded through the NIH/NIDCR (National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research).

Dr. McKay will be volunteering as an adjunct faculty instructor for the UNC Chapel Hill Department of Graduate Prosthodontics and has specialized in combining the latest digital dental technologies along with mentoring the residents with their Master’s projects.  She still finds the time to manage being an editor for the Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice. Dr. McKay and her husband, Dixon, reside in Raleigh with their one-year-old daughter, Merritt. They enjoy spending time with friends and family, going on walks and hikes with their dog, Beck, and cheering on the Tar Heels!

Thank you for your interest and support of Raleigh Prosthodontics, and we look forward to welcoming Dr. McKay to the Raleigh dental community and plan on visiting you during the next few months.
